Manchester United have undoubtedly found themselves landed in trouble this season.
With the Premier League champions sitting in 7th position in the Premier League table, the Champions League football hopes for next season are becoming dimmer and dimmer for David Moyes' boys.
The Red Devils witnessed their 2-1 lead against bottom club Fulham fall short after conceding a stoppage time goal to striker Darren Bent in the dying seconds of the match. This was after United had fought back from a goal behind, popping up with two hard-worked goals in less than 80 seconds.
Goal scorers Robin van Persie and Michael Carrick saw their precious goals become a sudden waste and Moyes saw his side face another difficult result which dented the reigning Premier League champions' hopes of competing in Europe's elite competition once more next year.
In my opinion United's only hope of gaining a place in the Champions League next season is if the they somehow manage to win the competition this year. From the outside looking in that is looking now a serious improbability.
No Champions League football could see United's top stars seeking an exit from the club, which club captain Nemanja Vidic already set to leave the club at the end of the season for Inter Milan.
The Red Devils need to be busy in the upcoming transfer market, despite the World Cup taking place. They must fill in the holes left behind by the expected departures of the likes of Vidic and Patrice Evra if they are going to challenge for a potential top four spot next season.
Moyes will need to use this season's poor performance to assess where United are becoming a weakness and make crucial signings which will strengthen these areas.
If he doesn't, the future of the club is looking bleaker and bleaker every day.
