Disappointing, horrendous, sloppy, uncommitted, I could go on. How bad could it have gotten? Much worse. Liverpool could have been 7 or even 8-0 up at half time.
We saw an old Arsenal that we thought had been history but instead they came back and haunted us.
The Gunners looked jaded, tired, they didn't fight. The fighting spirit wasn't even there. The first 20 minutes were awful. It was as if they were still in London. The squad was in need of fresh legs and disappointingly Wenger didn't get anyone in.
The centre of midfield was vacant because Mathieu Flamini was serving his suspension. Yes, Mikel Arteta is a great footballer with much experience but he just doesn`t make it as a defending midfielder.
That area in front of the back line was empty. Arteta and Wilshere don`t quite do it as defending midfielders. They were in need of a defending midfielder and a striker.
They needed a lift in the transfer window as we`ve seen with the arrival of Mesut Ozil in the summer. Julian Draxler and Diego Costa were there. Dimitar Berbatov was even offered to Wenger and disappointingly he didn't get anyone. Instead he got an injured midfielder who is out for weeks.
Wenger was aware of this and still went ahead with the deal. Why? They needed a striker to compliment that midfield. Nicklas Bendtner isn`t going to win you the Premier League.
Overall, Liverpool were the much better team. All us Gooners can do now is pray and hope for the best.
