Melo has been under intense speculation
Melo has been under intense speculation.

It's not exactly breaking news to say that the New York Knicks have had a terrible season. Nor is it to state that the future of their superstar, Carmelo Anthony, is up in the air.

But the franchise have a decision to make, and according to Mark J. Spears of Yahoo, the Knicks won't be cashing in on their star man.

In his updated NBA power rankings, Spears said the following on the subject of the Knicks (whom he listed at 22):

"There is 'no chance' the Knicks will deal Carmelo Anthony, who owns a contract opt-out this summer, before the trade deadline, a source said."

This isn't a surprise, no-one really expects Melo to leave New York before the February 20th trade deadline, but it seems that the team could be active on the deadline, in bringing a player or two in to try and convince Anthony that the side are trying to improve and become a play-off team.

Carmelo is expected to opt-out of his contract with the Knicks at the end of the season, and there is a large amount of speculation as to what jersey he will be wearing come the start of the 2014-15 season.

The LA Lakers are a possible destination for the seven time All-Star but no-one can say for certainty what will happen.

But for now, there may be a trade made in New York before the deadline, but Melo will not be involved.
