Borussia Dortmund exodus could spell Bundesliga disaster

Borussia Dortmund star striker Robert Lewandowski revealed last month that he was heading to the German capital to play for Bayern Munich from next season on.

With former Dortmund star Mario Gotze also at the German European champions, Dortmund are losing all of their star performers to their main rivals in the Bundesliga.

But will this prove to be a problem beyond Borussia Dortmund.

With rumours circulating about star Dortmund players such as Mats Hummels, Marco Reus and Ilkay Gundogan, could see an exodus that would seriously weaken Dortmund.

Hummels is arguably the heart of Borussia Dortmund's defence working alongside Serbian defender Neven Subotic to form a defence that has been crucial in Dortmund's rise to one of Europe's top teams.

He has recently been linked with a move to Manchester City and should he leave Dortmund the defence will suffer. It won't be easy to replace him.

Winger Reus has been on fire over the past two seasons putting in great performances all year round for Dortmund and working alongside striker Lewandowski to make him even more of a goal scoring threat than he already is.

With rumours suggesting that the German winger could be on his way to Manchester United, this transfer could prove to have irreparable consequences for BVB's midfield.

Should Gundogan also choose to leave Dortmund we may see their quick counter attacking style of play slowly evaporate.

This German midfielder has been the main player in Dortmund's midfield even arguably when Gotze was at the club.

At only 23-years of age this player has risen to become one of Europe's top playmakers. Making passes that even Xavi may not make this player has become a crucial part in Dortmund's style of play and arguably without him Jurgan Klopp's quick snappy pass and move game may come to a halt.

With Gundogan linked to top European sides like Real Madrid and Manchester United and with the number of players that may leave Dortmund this summer it is looking more and more likely that this German playmaker will be another player leaving the club.

So should all of these players leave Dortmund this summer could this be the beginning of the end for the Bundesliga as a whole?

If Dortmund lose these three players not only will it end their hopes of competing for the Bundesliga and the Champions League but it will also give Bayern Munich a clear run at the title for years to come.

It will leave the Bundesliga an uncompetitive wasteland, unattractive to football fans, who may choose to watch another league instead.
