A top NFL analyst has today cast doubt over Michael Sam's pedigree for the NFL, but it has nothing to do with his recent admission.

Gil Brandt, former VP of player personnel for the Dallas Cowboys and now an analyst for has revealed that he does not rate Sam in the top 100 seniors this year and has doubts about his size.

In a tweet today, Brandt said: "Michael Sam was not in my top 100 sr #NFL prospects. Player w/out position. Can't play in space, not big enough to play with hand on ground"

Sam, a defensive end in college was voted as a finalist for defensive player of the year in 2013 and was predicted to be picked in the third or fourth round by CBS Sports. However, Sam has revealed that he is gay and some reports are questioning whether this announcement will affect his draft stock.

If selected by a team, Sam would become the first openly gay player in the league's history.

Jason Collins became the first openly gay player in the NBA when he came out last year however he has not played on an NBA team since.
