Such is the wealth of midfield talent at the disposal of Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager chose to allow Suso the opportunity to spend a season away from Merseyside on loan. And the young Spaniard is making the most of this chance.
Suso made 14 Premier League appearances for the Reds last season but, with Rodgers deciding the 20-year-old would be afforded less chances this term, sanctioned a move to La Liga side Almeria.
The youngster, who joined Liverpool aged 16 despite interest from Barcelona, has played a prominent role for Almeria - featuring 21 times in the league - during which time he has contributed seven assists.
Suso’s most recent assist came in the impressive 2-0 defeat of leaders Atletico Madrid on Saturday, and moved him ahead of both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in Spanish top-flight assists table.
Messi drew level with Suso on Sunday, and moved Barcelona to the top of the table once more, as he grabbed an assist and scored twice away to Sevilla, and the two are just three assists behind leader Cesc Fabregas.
Neymar and Gareth Bale have both set-up eight goals for their respective teams, while Koke of Atletico Madrid has nine, so Suso is in esteemed company indeed.
Liverpool fans had plenty to cheer on Saturday following a superb 5-1 win over Arsenal at Anfield, and Suso’s contribution later that day provided even more reason to enjoy being a Red right now.
