Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has praised the club's £37.1 million January signing of Juan Mata, and has insisted that the Spanish star is the best player in the Premier League, reports the Express.
Mata, who signed for the Red Devils from Chelsea in the last window, has played a key role in David Moyes' side in recent weeks and Scholes believes he's been the standout player in England's elite division in recent months.
Scholes told reporters: "For the last couple of years Mata has probably been the best player in the league.
"We had to pay a lot of money for him and we were very lucky that he wasn't in Chelsea's plans, and only we can benefit from him now.
"Hopefully he can have a strong end to the season and he can help us climb the table."
However the ex-Manchester United star doesn't believe Mata is a similar player to the one that he was. Scholes has also insisted that the competitions for places in the forward line can only be a benefit for manager David Moyes.
He continued by saying: "I don't think he's similar to me. He's obviously a quality player but he's not a central-midfielder, he's a player who likes to play in the number 10 role.
"It's going to be difficult for the manager now as we've got five players vying for two positions. That can only be a healthy thing for competition though as the two forwards always need to impress because they know the talent waiting to take their place."
Manchester United fans will be hoping Mata can help turn the club's fortunes around, starting at the Emirates tomorrow evening. Manchester United will be desperate to secure three points against Arsenal as Moyes' side look to climb the Premier League table.
