Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal all came close to signing high-flying Chelsea star Eden Hazard, according to reports in France.
Le 10 Sport has revealed that the Belgian could well have ended up at one of the Blues’ main title rivals, as opposed to joining them in 2012, when he decided that he was going to transfer away from former club Lille.
According to Le 10, Arsenal ran Chelsea the closest for the signature of Hazard, though he ultimately preferred Stamford Bridge to the Emirates.
However it appears that the 23-year-old could easily have made his way to Manchester, with both City and United having entered advanced stages of negotiation before backing out.
The report in question states that United almost bought Hazard to Old Trafford, but were put off by the €40million Lille were asking for in return for their star player’s services.
City on the other hand snubbed the idea of bringing the attacking-midfielder to the Premier League as they think he was possessive of enough talent to be as efficient in England as he was in Ligue 1.
