Manchester United's top target signs new £200k-per-week deal

Manchester United appear to have been handed a sizable blow in the transfer market, with The Daily Mail claiming that Arturo Vidal has signed a new contract with Juventus.

Reports from the British newspaper suggest that the Chilean international has pledged his future to the Serie A champions until 2018 on a deal worth approximately £200,000-per-week.

Such news looks set to severely disappoint Manchester United, with the Mail also suggesting that the 26-year-old was the defending Premier League champions' top midfield target.

David Moyes' side have struggled severely in the Scot's first season at Old Trafford, with Sunday's rather dire 2-2 draw with relegation-threatened Fulham marking a new low of atruly torrid 2013/14 campaign.

Midfield has been a particular area of concern for seventh-placed Manchester United, with the likes of Tom Cleverley struggling to impose himself and Darren Fletcher having not long returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

While Moyes appears to be set for attacking midfielders with former Chelsea star Juan Mata joining Adnan Januzaj at Old Trafford, his team are clearly still in desperate need of an accomplished all-round midfielder.

Vidal, who joined Juventus from Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen back in 2011, is arguably one of the best all-round, box-to-box midfielder players in European football at present and such a commitment to the Old Lady is likely to delight and possibly even surprise supporters given that he signed a deal to keep him at Juve until 2017 in December.

Manchester United would surely have liked to have been able to secure a player of Vidal's quality, but now it looks as if they are going to have to look elsewhere in the summer.
