Tottenham are reported to have registered their interest in highly-rated Ajax defender Joel Veltman, who has also been the subject of scouting briefs outlined by Arsenal and Manchester United.
According to The Mirror, Spurs have dispatched representatives to watch the 22-year-old in action this season and have since made tentative enquiries having been impressed by what they had seen.
Spurs hope they have stolen a march on their rivals after making contact with regards to Veltman, and it would seem the White Hart Lane club retain good relations with Ajax given the previous acquisitions of Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen.
There will, however, be opposing interest from Arsenal and Manchester United with both Arsene Wenger and David Moyes also reported to have sent scouts to study the centre-back this term.
It remains unclear if Arsenal or Manchester United have been in contact with Ajax, but the club’s director of football Marc Overmars has made clear that any approach would not be welcome.
Overmars describes the Netherlands international as a ‘sensation’ and would be reluctant to let the youngster leave the Amsterdam Arena.
