After watching the match between Arsenal and Manchester United yesterday I came to the conclusion that Olivier Giroud is not the man to lead Arsenal's attack.
When he had the opportunity to score, he scuffed most of the chances that came to him. The effective, accurate heading we have seen from the Frenchman in the past at Montpelier and even at Arsenal was non-existent last night so it was disappointing to think that this player is Arsenal's main attacking player if they are serious about winning the title.
Many people have complained about Arsene Wenger's transfer policy in the previous transfer window with the manager failing to bring in any support for Giroud. If he had of done this would it have been a different story last night against United? If Wenger had have brought in a back-up striker in January - such as the likes of Diego Costa - would fans have seen goals last night?
To be honest, I don't think it was necessary for Wenger to bring in another front man as I think there is a man on the bench that could change Arsenal's title faith.
That man is German striker Lukas Podolski and I believe Wenger has not got the full potential out of the German. He has played Podoski as a winger for the majority of the time that he's been at the club, which is one of the great mistakes that we might only realise a few years down the line when he eventually leaves his current club for regular playing time at a new team.
Podolski is a natural centre-forward but, to be fair to Wenger, he has played as a winger for the German national team and performed well. However, I really think he shines as a striker.
During his time at former club Koln, Podolski netted 18 goals in 29 appearances for the club in his last year - almost single-handedly saving the club from relegation, although it wasn't enough there is no doubting the impact he had up front at Koln.
In my opinion, he would have changed the game yesterday had he come on for Giroud. He would have added pace and flair into a very dull game at the Emirates and could have got a goal.
So although another striker is undoubtedly needed at the club, I think Wenger should really use Podolski during the last stages of this season if he wants to win the title.
