Miami Heat forward LeBron James claims that Kevin Durant will only begin to experience real title pressure once he retires from the sport.
Asked when Durant, the Oklahoma City Thunder star, would start coming under more scrutiny to win the Larry O’Brien trophy, the 29-year-old told reporters: “When I retire.”
He added: “When I retire. They're still talking about, am I going to win a third? You know…”
This is the latest in a recent speight of somewhat arrogant statements from LeBron, 29, who appears to be feeling a little insecure about his own abilities right now.
Earlier this week he said he belongs on the NBA’s Mount Rushmore, and there was also the dunk exhibition at practice, the stuff about feeling healthier and so on.
There’s no doubt that LeBron has been under the microscope like few other sport stars - let alone NBA players - over the past decade.
However, to suggest that Durant will only begin to feel genuine title pressure once he hangs up his boots is perhaps a little bit of an exaggeration.
