Liverpool target Federico Fazio has been tipped to sign for Barcelona, by Sevilla team-mate Diego Perotti, reports talkSPORT.

The Argentina international has impressed at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium this season, and has gone on to establish himself as one of the most highly-rated defenders in La Liga.

His performances have attracted attention from Premier League admirers, with Reds boss Brendan Rodgers among those considering a bid to bring the player to Anfield.

However, according to Fazio's team-mate Perotti, Liverpool are wasting their time pursuing the 26-year-old stopper, because he is destined to turn out at Camp Nou, under the tutelage of Barcelona's Argentine boss Tata Martino.

"I see him at Barcelona," he told El Desmarque Radio. "Fede is going to be the best central defender in Europe.

"With his height and his way of playing he will be the best - nothing is missing for him to be a starter at Barcelona."

Fazio is under contract with Sevilla until 2018, but is expected to be available for around £5.5million.

Liverpool are not the only English club to have monitored the centre-backs progress in recent years, with Merseyside rivals Everton and Southampton also keeping tabs on his development.
