Maximilian Arnold has impressed this season..

Manchester United & Arsenal dealt transfer blow over 'new Özil'

Any hopes Manchester United and Arsenal had of signing a player described as the 'next Mesut Özil' have taken a hit after recent comments from his agent.

Arsene Wenger has reportedly been very keen on Wolfsburg midfielder Maximilian Arnold, but the 19-year-old reportedly told Kicker magazine that his dream was to play for Manchester United.

That story also drew lots of parallels between Arnold and the Arsenal's record summer signing Mesut Özil, who has helped lift the Gunners into the title race this season.

However, the clubs out of Emirates Stadium and Old Trafford look unlikely to be welcoming Arnold any time soon, if the quotes from the midfielder's agent, Karl Herzog, are anything to go by.

"Max is with Wolfsburg and he is doing fine. He definitely enjoys all the qualities of the club and they know all of his qualities," he is quoted as saying by the Daily Express.

Wenger is accumulating a crop of German talent at Emirates Stadium and if the Gunners boss were to recruit Arnold, he would be joining compatriots Lukas Podolski, Per Mertesacker, Serge Gnabry, Gedion Zelalem and the aforementioned Özil.
