Manchester City legend Colin Bell has blamed high finance for taking the fun out of football.
He is convinced that money and the disastrous financial implications relegation from the Premier League can bring is ruining the game.
Bell told PA Sport: "Apart from the top three or four clubs, everyone starts the season thinking about the amount of points they need to avoid relegation. In my day, no-one even began to worry about that until January. But back then, relegation did not have quite the same catastrophic effect on clubs as it does today."
