Despite signing a new contract with Liverpool in December, Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez remains Real Madrid’s number one summer transfer target, according to the Daily Mail.
The 26-year-old appeared to end speculation over his future by signing a four-and-a-half-year contract worth £200,000 a week with the Reds.
However, that has not deterred Real Madrid, who still plan on making the prolific South American their latest marquee signing this summer.
The La Liga title contenders, though, face stiff competition for his signature from Chelsea.
The Blues are considering making a £55m summer offer, which would eclipse the current £50m British transfer record that the west London outfit set for ex-Liverpool striker Fernando Torres in January 2011.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will fancy his chances of keeping Suarez at Anfield, however, with a top-four finish looking increasingly likely.
Suarez attempted to leave the Merseyside outfit last summer, partly because of his desire to play Champions League football.
But it seems likely that Suarez will be competing in Europe’s premier club competition with the Reds next season.
