Manchester City are now a bigger team than Manchester United, according to Citizens boss Manuel Pellegrini.

As reported by the Metro, the Sky Blues boss, ahead of his side's Champions League Round of 16 clash with Barcelona tomorrow night, has insisted that City are now the biggest team in the north west.

Speaking to reporters, Pellegrini said: "The biggest team is City now, but we can’t forget the last few years."

Despite Manchester United being the current Premier League champions, Manchester City are way in front of their rivals in England's elite division in this campaign.

Manchester United currently sit in seventh place in the league and are 12 points behind Pellegrini's side, who also have a game in hand.

Both Manchester United and Manchester City could still meet each other in the knockout stages of this year's Champions League.

However if City are going to make it through to the quarter finals of the competition, then they will have to knockout Spanish giants Barcelona over two legs. City's neighbours Manchester United will look to get the better of Greek outfit Olympiacos.
