It has been recently reported that Sami Khedira is on Chelsea's radar, and that they would want to sign the German international in the summer window.

The Real Madrid man, who has been very successful under Jose Mourinho in the past, could be helping Chelsea to try and win the Premier League next season, if he can get the summer move away from the Bernabeu.

Chelsea have only recently signed a holding midfielder in the form of Nemanja Matic, who will be massive competition for the German if he were to make his move to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

However, Chelsea could do with extra numbers in the defensive area of their midfield, due to their ageing squad, the likes of Frank Lampard and John Obi Mikel, who will be retiring in the next few seasons, or even moving on to other clubs due to their fall in quality.

Real Madrid could afford to let Khedira leave, due to the fact they have recently agreed a new contract with ex-Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, and they have youngster Asier Illarramendi. Croatian Luka Modric can also be deployed in a deeper role in the midfield, allowing players such as Angel Di Maria, Isco, and Cristiano Ronaldo to flourish further up the pitch.

Whether Khedira would want this move is questionable, Real Madrid are a huge club, who will challenge every year for the title in Spain. Chelsea however, have had mixed success in recent years, with them finishing sixth in the Premier League in the same year that they also won the Uefa Champions League under Roberto di Matteo.

Either way, this summer's transfer window could see a number of big players on the move, will Sami Khedira be one of them? We will have to wait and see.
