Michael Sam received a standing ovation from fans present at Missouri's basketball match against Tennessee on Saturday.

According to the Associated Press, the All-American defensive end recently came out as homosexual ahead of May's NFL draft, making him, potentially, the first openly gay player to play in the NFL.

Sam was attending the game at the Mizzou Arena to be honoured at half-time with his football teammates for their Cotton Bowl victory against Oklahoma State.

The report claims fans at the Arena stood up in to applaud when Sam was pictured on the video screens above the court.
