Flares, toilet roll, coins, cups, paper aeroplanes; all things that are, unfortunately, but regularly, thrown onto football pitches by over excited fans - tear gas is a step too far though.
That is what was thrown by a brainless fan during Villarreal's defeat at home to Celta Vigo on Saturday, causing some to have to have their eyes washed out and sending people fleeing.
Only a few minutes remained in the match when the canister was hurled onto the pitch near the Villareal goal. Jonathan Pereira attempted to kick it away from the pitch, but he was forced to run down the tunnel with the rest of the players as the gas started to get into eyes.
The incident caused the match to be stopped for over 25 minutes and, upon returning, Celta Vigo managed to bag another goal in the couple of minutes remaining to make the score 2-0.
