Manchester United's chances of signing Borussia Dortmund's Ilkay Gundogan have been boosted as Real Madrid have reportedly pulled out of the running to sign the 23-year-old.

The Daily Express suggest Real Madrid are no longer interested in bringing the German international to the Santiago Bernabeu due to his recent injury problems.

It was originally thought that Real Madrid had first refusal on the Dortmund star, however it has now being suggested that Carlo Ancelotti has switched his attention elsewhere.

The La Liga giants are now expected to go all out for fellow Manchester United target Arturo Vidal.

Juventus star Vidal has recently signed a new deal to stay in Turin, however Real Madrid believe they can tempt the Chilean international away from Serie A in the summer.

News of Real Madrid's doubts over Gundogan, who has played just one game for Dortmund this season due to a back injury, will be music to David Moyes' ears as he is keen on bolstering his midfield options at the end of the season.

Gundogan, whose current deal is due to expire at the end of the 2014/15 season, is likely to be available for a fee in the region of  £25million.
