Speculation over Robin van Persie's long-term future at Manchester United has been tossed around over recent weeks, but it now now looks certain to increase after he was left out of a list of potential captains on the club's official site.
With Nemanja Vidic, Manchester United's current captain, is set to depart Old Trafford this summer, the club will be in need of a new figure to take the armband, however whether Van Persie will still be at the club by then anyway is now in doubt.
The article was published examining five possible candidates to take the armband. It does say Van Persie has 'vast experience', but he doesn't make the cut. Wayne Rooney, Phil Jones, Jonny Evans, Darren Fletcher and David De Gea were all on the list.
United certainly have done themselves no favours by publishing this article onto their official website, with fans and media alike expecting answers as to what it could imply.
It doesn't help the fact that speculation has already been rebuffed suggesting that the Dutchman was set for a controversial return to the Emirates at the end of this season.
Perhaps it is just a different approach by the journalist to consider players not as well cherished as the Dutchman, but it certainly fuels the rumour to it's maximum propulsion.
Also omitted from the list was Patrice Evra, who is out of contract this summer. He has previously captained the club but it now looks he is set to leave, with Moyes seemingly not a big fan. Michael Carrick is also overlooked.
