Carlos Beltran hopes to finally get his hands on a World Series ring this season, whilst he tries to help Derek Jeter collect his sixth ring before the legend retires at the end of the season.

The former Cardinals player admits that he feels proud to be a part of baseball history at the New York Yankees, and these feelings towards the Yankees has meant the 36-year-old has maintained his health ahead of the new MLB season.

“Hopefully we can help this team win a championship,” Beltran said after working out at the Yankees’ minor league complex Monday for the first time. “I know he has a lot of championships, but I don’t have [any]. Hopefully, I can win one.

“So many good players have put on this uniform and for me to be able to be part of history, it feels great. I trained hard this offseason to put myself in a position where I’m healthy.

"I don’t want to get caught up into thinking too much or trying come here and impress. I don’t need to impress nobody. I just need be smart. I know if I’m healthy, at the end of the year, everything will be there.”

Over $500 million has been invested into the Yankees in the off-season, with the main aim of getting the ball club to a title-winning level again.

Beltran himself signed a three-year deal from last year's World Series runners-up, St Louis Cardinals.

Along with the superstar signing Masahiro Tanaka, the Yankees should renew their World Series aspirations, after last season's disappointing return in which they finished third in the AL East with only 85 wins.
