Crazy rumour links Vince McMahon to shock Newcastle United takeover

Could he replace Mike Ashley?
Could he replace Mike Ashley?.

In one of the more bizzare rumors of recent times, Winner Sports is reporting that long time WWE Chief executive, Vince McMahon, is interested in buying Newcastle United Football Club.

Mike Ashley, the current owner of the Premier League club, has long been keen on selling the club he bought in 2007 - and now it seems he could have found an unlikely candidate to replace him.

McMahon, a former wrester turned business tycoon, currently oversees the running of the WWE, but is reportedly intent on expanding his portfolio.

Recently valued at over $1.1 billion, the American businessmen would certainly be able to afford the club, but it remains unlikely that these rumors can be substantiated.

Winner Sports did report to have spoken to sources in the North-East, who allegedly revealed the situation:

"Vince McMahon has been sniffing around the club and seems keen on pursuing interest.

"Obviously it is very early stages but there is hope the fans may get what they want with Ashley leaving. Buying a club like Newcastle would throw him into the spotlight in England which is just what he is looking to do."

Ashley's tenure as Newcastle owner has been fraught with tension and controversy, and many fans would welcome new ownership in any shape or form.

Many however remain dubious about this most recent rumor, especially considering the two sides have been linked before back in 2011 only for the suggestion to be rubbished by the club.

The story has proved popular on social media with mock line-ups created incorporating WWE stars.

Still. How about John Cena partnering Remy upfront - could it work?
