The LA Lakers are expected to be active at the trade deadline this week and according to CBS sources are targeting Minnesota Timberwolves forward, Kevin Love in a trade deal.
The Lakers have been long-term admirers of Love and had thought to be favorites to snap up the forward once he hits free agency this summer.
It seems now that the Lakers are not willing to wait until then and will aim to pick up his expiring contract before the Thursday deadline.
A report today said "The Lakers, Love's first choice, 'have the best shot' of landing the Southern California native, one person familiar with the player's thinking said."
It is thought that the Lakers offer would include Pau Gasol's expiring contract and a (high) first round draft pick.
The situation now rests with Timberwolves president Flip Saunders to either pull the trigger on a deal or hope that Love decides to stay in Minnesota when he hits free agency.
However as the report says: "According to a person familiar with Saunders' strategy, he has indicated there is "no way" he will trade Love by Thursday's 3 p.m. ET deadline."
As usual all eyes will be on Los Angeles as the trade deadline approaches.
