Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has denied that he committed adultery on his wife with an FHM model.
The 26-year-old, who took to Twitter on Sunday to apologise after being photographed in his underwear by the aforementioned model Celia Kay, returned to the social-networking site on Tuesday night to clarify reports that he had an affair.
The France international wrote: “Ultimate precision with respect to my apologies...Yes I made a mistake but not I have not committed adultery! Things are clear…”
Giroud, however, had previously tweeted: “I apologise to my wife, family and friends and my manager, team-mates and Arsenal fans.
“I now have to fight for my family and for my club and obtain their forgiveness. Nothing else matters at the moment.”
The model in question, who was snapped arriving and leaving the Four Seasons Hotel in Canary Wharf before Arsenal’s match with Crystal Palace on February 2, appeared to back up Giroud’s statement of events when she tweeted this morning: “Haters will always hate... Especially when they don't know the whole story…”
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger stated that the matter would be dealt with internally. But the Frenchman will be hoping that his star striker is mentally ready for the club’s biggest game of the season: tonight's Champions League last-16 tie against Bayern Munich at the Emirates Stadium.
