Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race for Real Madrid winger Angel di Maria according to Tuttomercatoweb, who believe that Tim Sherwood's side are ready to rival Premier League giants Arsenal for a player valued at €40m by Los Blancos.

Di Maria has been perennially linked with a move away from the Bernabeu ever since Madrid broke the world transfer record for Gareth Bale last summer, with consistent first-team opportunities more difficult to come by.

The Argentine international has stayed in the Spanish capital to fight for his place this season but his long-term future remains very much up for debate, with Madrid reported to have placed a €40m price tag on his head.

Spurs are long-term admirers of the 26-year-old and are ready to make their interest official with a concrete offer during the close season, if Madrid indicate they are willing to sell to free up room for other transfer targets.

Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain have also been consistently mentioned in connection with the versatile winger's signature, a stance aided by Di Maria's performances when selected this season.

Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has used Di Maria on 34 occasions in all competitions this season despite Bale's arrival at the Bernabeu, with the tricky wide man smashing in nine goals in a promising campaign to date.
