Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has denied interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder Erik Lamela this summer, according to talkSPORT.
The 21-year-old has endured a difficult start to life in north London following his £30million move from AS Roma, prompting rumours that he could return to Italy at the end of the season.
Spurs boss Tim Sherwood is reportedly ready to let Lamela leave White Hart Lane, but the club-record flop will not be linking up with Rafa Benitez at Stadio San Paolo after De Laurentiis ruled out a bid for the Argentina international.
"He is not in our plans," he said. "We have reinforcements in that role and we will not play checkers with some of our own players.
"I would always love to buy players aged 20 or so, take them by the hand and make them grow. It takes practice, but we have no regrets."
Lamela's loss of form has not been helped by a succession of niggling injuries, meaning he's been forced to endure a stop-start debut Premier League campaign.
A return to Serie 'A' could help the South American rediscover his best, but he'll have to find another suitor after Napoli distanced themselves from making a bid for the Tottenham outcast.
