Former world champion boxer Joe Calzaghe will release a documentary looking at the past, present and future of boxing in his local community.
The documentary, called StreetGames with Joe Calzaghe, takes a look back of the humble beginnings of the British boxer in his home town of Newport, South Wales.
Joe, and his father Enzo will reflect on his troubled childhood and the steps he took to become a boxing legend:
“I grew up in a tough area and when I was bullied at school," Joe said. "I struggled to understand myself. I became introverted and didn’t have any self-worth; boxing gave me the discipline, strength and focus I needed to respect myself and others."
The documentary aims to show the positive effect sport can have in a community. Calzhage will also take a look at his community rising stars and the impact sport has on young people:
"During the filming, I witnessed first-hand the joy boxing brings to these youngsters – it could almost be me 30 odd years ago. I loved meeting them, sparring with them and finding out their stories. We must ensure that local clubs and coaches are supported to enable them to continue their great community work."
The show will premiere on Wednesday 26 February at 9:30pm on BT Sport 1.
