Toni Kroos earns praise from Ferdinand

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand was left purring like everyone else by the performance of Toni Kross against Arsenal, as the Bayern Munich midfielder floated around the Emirates Stadium pitch on a different level to almost all others. And he scored a pretty good goal, too.

The Germany international opened the scoring in north London, just as he had done exactly a year ago, with a wonderful curling effort from the edge of the Arsenal area, before Thomas Muller all but placed Bayern into the next round.

Kroos’ performance was one of both culture and industry as he sprayed the ball around the lush outfield, to reinforce precisely why Manchester United manager David Moyes reportedly wants to bring him to Old Trafford.

His display was not missed by one potential teammate, although surely Bayern will not allow him to leave Munich, with Ferdinand waxing lyrical about the the way the 24-year-old was able to control the game.

“Kroos is conducting this game nicely! A few lovely raking balls too,” Ferdinand tweeted.

He added: “Kroos is really putting on a clinic here....passing the ball crisply and with real intent to open up the opposition. Lovely to watch.”

Kroos’ future remains up in the air as he negotiates a new contract, with the player reported to be holding out for a new contract. United are supposed to be planning a £25 million bid, but even that may not be enough.
