Champions League: Top 10 best passers (1)

Published Add your comment

The Champions League return in all its traditional glory this week, with four last 16 first-leg ties taking place over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday night.

On both nights, fans of the Premier League unfortunately witnessed two of their sides featuring on the wrong end of a pair of passing masterclasses, doled out by arguably the best footballing outfits in Europe.

On Tuesday evening at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City - who were reduced to 10 men after the least shocking red card in history for the ponytailed Martin Demichelis - were quite literally chasing shadows as the might of Gerardo Martino's Barcelona recorded a comfortable 2-0 victory.

Similarly at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, Arsenal - who admittedly enjoyed a very bright start indeed against the Bavarians - eventually fell by the same scoreline to Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich.

While watching these two specialist passing teams go to work, we got thinking here at GMS - just who are the best/most successful individual passers in the competition this season?

Using stats from's official website (we've decided to use the stat detailing the most completed passes rather than pass completion %) we bring you the top 10 most successful passers in the Champions League.

Click on above or below to view the list and, as ever, please don't forget to leave your thoughts below.

What do you make of the list - is it as you expected, or are there one or two inclusions or even admissions that shock you?
