Chelsea are preparing a big offer for Real Madrid star Raphael Varane, according to reports in Spain.
Former Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho holds the French centre-back in high regard and is keen to take him from the Bernabeu and bring him to Stamford Bridge.
At just 20-years-old, Varane has already established himself as a first team regular at Real Madrid and is expected to go to the World Cup with France if fit.
A good tournament could see his valuation skyrocket and Mourinho is keen to take him from Real Madrid's clutches while he can.
Varane currently has a release clause of €30m in his contract and according to Sport, Mourinho is considering activating that clause.
The Special One is confident of luring Varane to Chelsea as he was the manager who originally gave him his chance in the first team as a teenager.
There is a concern, however, over his long-term fitness after undergoing knee surgery in May last year. Varane has struggled to stay fit under Carlo Ancelotti and has seen his chances in the first team limited.
He made his comeback at the start of February after almost two months out, completing 90 minutes in the Spanish Cup win against Atletico Madrid.
