Diego Maradona set to make shock playing comeback

Arguably the greatest footballer to have ever lived, Diego Maradona’s exploits on the pitch are the stuff of legend.

However the talismanic Argentinian may be set for one last hurrah, as it’s claimed that he is sensationally contemplating a return to his playing career.

The Metro reports that Maradona, now aged 53, is in talks with Deportivo Riestra, a tiny club in the fifth tier of football in Argentina over a return to football which would see him play for the club until the end of the season.

Rumour has it that the former Napoli hero and World Cup winner could make his debut for Riestra next month, having been put in touch with the club through one of his advisors who owns a share in it.

Mardona reportedly said he was ‘keen to play’ when asked about the prospect and Riestra are said to have already traded paperwork with the authorities. A source close to the club said: “We want him to debut on March 23. The paperwork is already being sorted.”

Is he going to give Lionel Messi a run for his money? We think not. But that doesn’t mean the prospect isn’t amusing all the same.
