Washington Redskins Tight End Fred Davis was arrested for driving under the influence yesterday - and now his mugshot has surfaced on the internet.
Davis was held by police in Virginia after he was found to be under the influence while behind the wheel of his Rolls Royce Phantom.
To make matters worse for the Redskins player, he has also been suspended indefinitely by the NFL over the incident, because it is his second violation of the league's substance-abuse policy.
He was previously hit with a four-game ban after marijuana was found in his system, which meant he missed the end of the 2011 season.
Now following his arrest, Deadspin have posted Davis' mugshot, taken after he was arrested on Wednesday.
The website also carries a picture of Davis in the process of being arrested by police.
The 28-year-old will shortly become a free agent, however he will have to apply to be reinstated to the league after his suspension.
He claims that he unwittingly took a a banned substance in a nutritional supplement.
“I would like to clarify the circumstances that resulted in my current suspension," he said via the NFL players association.
"In the past, I made the mistake of knowingly ingesting a banned substance. For over two years, Ive worked very hard to eliminate marijuana from my life, and I have not had a positive test for it since 2011,” Davis said.
“Unfortunately, a couple of months ago I took a supplement that contained a banned substance. I now know that supplements are not regulated by the FDA and may contain banned substances.
"The NFL Policy is strict, and not knowing that a supplement might contain a banned substance doesnt excuse a violation of the policy. Ive worked closely with the NFLPA and NFL to resolve this violation, and I will be permitted to apply for reinstatement in the fall. I look forward to staying in football shape, remaining in compliance with the NFL policy, and having a chance to get back on the field to contribute to a teams success next season.”
