Manchester United must make Kroos top target

Watching Toni Kroos in action for Bayern Munich in their 2-0 Champions League victory over Arsenal, it was clear to see why a club like Manchester United would be attracted to him.

First of all he is a high class midfielder who is comfortable in possession and who very rarely misplaces a pass. Added to this he also knows how to score goals. Can he be the man that Manchester United are searching for to replace Paul Scholes? Scholes is almost irreplaceable but Kroos could be the man United have been searching for. Currently United do not have enough quality players in midfield and certainly nobody in the class of Kroos.

The twenty-four year old has the qualities that Manchester United need and demand. There is no doubting his class as a footballer but he also has the composure and control during a game that United have struggled with all season. He not only controls the play but he can also influence the game in dangerous areas of the pitch. Many players can pass a ball but few can create the openings in opposing defences that Kroos can.

Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney would welcome the chance to play alongside him.

His all-round play against Arsenal stood out and the icing on the cake was his superbly taken goal. The key thing for me is that he was the shining light in what is considered a star-studded team. Yes Arsenal only had ten men during the second half, which made it easier for Bayern to retain possession, but the key to possession is what you do with it. Remember the huge percentage of possession enjoyed by Barcelona against Bayern in last season's Champions league semi-final - Bayern won 7-0 over the two legs! Kroos gives them that quality and cutting edge when they have the ball.

One interesting stat from the Champions league tie against Arsenal was that Kroos made as many (147) completed passes as the whole Arsenal team combined!

Manchester United are looking for high quality players and players who are a good fit for Manchester United as a club. Kroos looks to fit that bill and I am sure United will do their homework on him to make sure he is a sound person as well as footballer. I have no doubt he is.

Rumour has it that David Moyes was present at The Emirates and he must have left the ground highly impressed with what he saw.

It is imperative Manchester United pull out all the stops for a player like this if they are to compete next season in the Premier League. The problem for United is that they may not be able to entice Kroos to Old Trafford with the promise of Champions League football as qualification for this is looking increasingly unlikely.

If Kroos becomes available they must break the bank to get him. They allegedly have a huge transfer budget for the summer but they may have to use most of it on Kroos. However, money should not be the consideration here as United will show serious intent to all those that have doubted them if they are to make this marque signing. To bring in quality United will need to pay for it.
