Former Barcelona goalkeeper Rüştü Reçber has doubted whether Marc-André ter Stegen is the right man to replace Victor Valdes.
Reports have suggested that Borussia Monchengladbach's keeper is set to replace Valdes who has said he will not sign a new contract at the Nou Camp.
Ter Stegen has established himself as a top goalkeeper in the Bundesliga since making his debut in 2011 and Barcelona have followed him for a while now.
The goalkeeper has made over 100 appearances his current club and helped guide them to a respectable eighth place finish last season while 'Die Fohlen' are looking to finish even higher this campaign, they are sixth currently.
The 21-year-old is also the current understudy to Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer with Germany and has featured three times already in the national starting XI.
However, retired Turkish stopper, Rüştü, who only made four La Liga appearances for the Catalonia club, has suggested that the young German stopper will struggle.
"Ter Stegen is not at the level of Valdes. Besides none of the German goalkeepers have been successful in Spain." The 40 year-old claimed to The Network Radio.
"I met with Valdes when he was very young. At the time he seemed a bit crazy but he has matured into a very good and experienced goalkeeper. I would advise him to continue at Barca."
Spanish goalkeeper Valdes is set to finally end his 12-year-stay at the club this summer and has been linked with a move to rich French club AS Monaco.
Having featured over 500 times for Barca, Valdes has enjoyed considerable success in what has been a golden period for the club, winning six La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies.
