Arsenal are considering a summer move for Liverpool star Glen Johnson, and view him as an ideal potential replacement for Bacary Sagna, according to reports in Italy.

Italian source TuttoMercato speculates that the Gunners could be preparing to move for the 30-year-old, who may be unsettled at Anfield. Johnson has only managed 18 appearances in all competition for the Reds this term and, with the development of the likes of Jon Flanagan coming on strongly, there may not be a place for him in Merseyside come the summer.

Of course Arsene Wenger will have a nagging issue at the back of his mind that the recruitment of Johnson could well fix. With current right-back Sagna’s future looking less and less secure with each passing day, the Arsenal boss will know that it is a problem which requires his immediate attention.

Sagna himself has thus far refused to commit his future to the Emirates and in Johnson Wenger would have a ready made replacement who has the experience to come in and do a job.

Whether or not Brendan Rodgers will consent to the departure of the former England international is something that will likely be decided before the next transfer window, but it’s looking like an increasing possibility that Johnson could be playing for the Gunners as of next season.
