Philadelphia Phillies Pitcher Cliff Lee received some interesting fan mail today as he was sent human finger nails.
Being an international sports star comes with a lot of perks, and although there isn't a sports icon alive who would ever slate their own fans, Lee is surely unsettled by one today.
Revealed via Anthony Castrovince's Twitter page, the writer for MLB.com was surely able to see the funny side.
His tweet read: "Tidbit from #Phillies camp today: Somebody mailed Cliff Lee their fingernail clippings. The perks of celebrity. #FanNail"
The tweet has been greeted with a comical response, one user even tweeting back: "I thought I'd covered my tracks."
Currently, the news has had a positive response with fans seeing the funny side, Lee himself hasn't been quoted on it nor has anyone associated with the Phillies but it seems unlikely that it will prompt a negative reaction.
As of yet, it is unclear if it was sent as a gift of praise or something more sinister but it hasn't gotten in the way of Lee's preparations for the upcoming baseball season as Lee continues to work as hard as ever at Spring training.
