Arsene Wenger gives failing Arsenal star extended leave

Arsene Wenger has permitted under performing Arsenal star Mesut Ozil to take an extended break from his playing duties, according to reports in the Mirror.

The Frenchman gave his squad two days off following their scintillating 4-1 victory over Sunderland at the weekend, in a bid to allow them to recharge their batteries.

However it’s believed that Ozil, whose performances have been on the decline in terms of quality since his record-breaking move from Real Madrid in the summer, was given more time in the hope that he would return fresh and ready to move forward.

The Mirror reports that the German international headed home after the weekend’s win, and is due to return to Arsenal today, with an eye on recovering from a thigh problem before next weekend’s clash with Stoke.

The 25-year-old has looked jaded in recent weeks, and his recent showings for the north Londoners have attracted criticism from fans. Wenger will be hoping that the £42million man can start to justify his large transfer fee upon his return.
