Juan Mata has admitted how surprised he has been by the sheer stature of Manchester United since completing his £37.1m move from Chelsea last month.
The 25-year-old has been taken aback by the amount of interest in the reigning Premier League champions and its players - but insists he is loving life at Old Trafford.
“I realise how big this club is,” Mata told bwin, when asked what has been the biggest surprise off the pitch since joining the Red Devils. “I think it’s a massive club, followed by millions and millions of fans around the world. And I think to be here, living it, is amazing.”
The Spain international is still finding his feet in Manchester - both on and off the pitch.
Mata’s love of London was no secret, but the former Chelsea star admits he will feel more settled once he knows more about his new surroundings.
“It’s a different city,” he admitted. “I have to settle down, I have to know different places to go but I think it’s a nice city. It’s a very, very ‘football city’ with two big teams - big rivals - and I think it’s amazing for the fans.”
Mata has made five appearances for the Red Devils and is still waiting to score his first goal for his new employers; however, he has provided three assists.
United will be without him for this evening’s Champions League match against Olympiakos, though, because he is cup-tied.
