World XI: Summer transfer hits (9)

AM: Willian

During the early part of the season, I'm sure those Chelsea fans who had reacted with such delight when their club managed to snatch Willian from under the noses of London rivals Tottenham were beginning to question such a deal given the seemingly ponderous Brazilian's lack of discernible impact.

However, while he did endure a slow start to his Stamford Bridge career, former Shakhtar and Anzhi Makhachkala star Willian has really come onto his own at Chelsea in recent months and has now established himself as a regular starter under Jose Mourinho.

He might not be to everyone's tastes, but Willian is reliable and combines his attacking nous with a solid commitment to his defensive duties - an admirable trait in a player, for sure.
