Video: Is this the worst ending to a basketball game?

Published Add your comment

Being a referee is a hard job. Sometimes you have to make hard decisions. What happens if you're unsure of a foul in the last seconds of a double overtime playoff game?

Well if you're these Texas high school referees you simply run out of the gym and declare the game is over.

It may seem a bit cowardly but that is exactly what happened in this girls high school game between Celina and Argyle in the regional final last weekend.

Argyle lead the game by one point with a matter of seconds left but as a Celina player makes her way down court to launch a buzzer-beater, she is clearly fouled and one referee blows a whistle.

However, before any free throws can be taken the referees run out of the gym indicating the game is over.

Check out all the crazy action in the video above.

No sanctions have been brought against the referees as of yet but one veteran Texas referee called it: "the worst ending to a basketball gave I've ever seen in my many years of officiating."
