Johnny Manziel is courting the attention of many NFL teams after this week’s combine performance.
However one team that people didn’t expect to be interested, or have a chance of signing him was the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Texas A&M quarterback reportedly met with the Eagles during the Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Field, along with (in draft order) the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, Oakland Raiders (reportedly) Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Dallas Cowboys.
Either this is the Eagles just asking because they feel they have to enquire, or they feel they are in with a real chance of actually signing him.
The Eagles have been known to chat to seemingly unrealistic prospects, after talking with 2012 draft star Robert Griffin III, now with the Washington Redskins.
That was during the time of Andy Reid’s tenure as head coach however and now things are now very different.
However, there is a potential package that the Eagles could offer to trade their way up the draft tables and make a monster sized move for "Johnny Football."
The Eagles could look to rebuilding their franchise and could look to Manziel to be the player they want to base it around.
They’ve certainly got things to offer other teams who are higher up but need better options at QB.
Michael Vick has been long reported as becoming a free agent and that experience could help sweeten deals with other teams.
But they do have Nick Foles. Foles, in his second season, led the NFL’s passer rating and was invited to the Pro Bowl. He’s quite a prospect to trade away if they don’t see him as a franchise QB.
Rumour will have out until the draft on May 8th.
