Liverpool want Real Madrid star as Gerrard replacement - reports

Liverpool could be poised to make a daring raid for Real Madrid star Isco this summer, as Brendan Rodgers looks to turn his squad from Champions League hopefuls to genuine title challengers.

According to Italian source TuttoMercato, the Spanish playmaker has been placed on the Anfield radar, with some suggesting that he would be groomed as Steven Gerrard’s long term replacement.

Reports have been rife recently that Isco could be targeted by a number of European giants this summer, as he’s not been afforded the game time necessary to sufficiently continue his development at Real Madrid.

Despite making a £23million move to the Bernabeu from Malaga last summer, he has failed to cement a place in an attacking lineup which includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Angel di Maria, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale, and as such he may be looking to leave the club.

Of course Liverpool’s credentials in the race for the highly-rated 21-year-old, considered one of the best upcoming talents in the world, may be decided by whether or not they qualify for the Champions League this term.

The prospect of joining the Reds for guaranteed football may interest Isco, but it’s unlikely he’ll sign up to a team not competing in Europe’s most prestigious competition.
