Brandin Cooks isn't expected to be pick very high at the NFL draft in May, but after today he will be one of the richest prospects in the room in Radio City, New York.
Adidas were offering a $100,000 prize for the fastest 40-yard dash time recorded at the combine by a player wearing their new adizero 5-Star 40 cleats.
Cooks, who led all wide receivers with a time of 4.33 seconds, held on to claim the prize despite a last ditch effort by cornerback Phillip Gaines, who came in just behind with a time of 4.38 seconds.
Cooks didn't run the quickest time at the combine by a long way however.
Running back Dri Archer posted a time of 4.26, narrowly missing out on the 40 record at the combine by just .03 seconds.
However, Archer didn't wear the cleat in question and was therefore ineligible for the prize the sportswear giants were offering.
It certainly begs the question why he didn't. Are sport stars that superstitious that they can't change their footwear for one sprint?
