Real Madrid may have handed out an unapologetic thrashing to Schalke on Wednesday evening, but Klaas-Jan Huntelaar of the shellshocked Germans may have just scored the best goal in the Champions League this season.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema were all able to get on the scoresheet twice as Real Madrid crashed six goals in Gelsenkirchen, but Huntelaar’s solitary strike for Schalke was the best of the lost.
Real Madrid were already 6-0 ahead when Christian Fuchs played a hopeful cross from Schalke’s left flank in the final minute of the regulation 90, which Huntelaar ran onto and connected with a breathtaking volley.
Huntelaar’s right-footed effort had screeched in off the crossbar before Iker Casillas could hardly move. Was it the best in the Champions League this season? Have your say below.
