Jose Mourinho has refuted claims that Chelsea made a January offer for Inter Milan legend Javier Zanetti, saying that it is "impossible" to see him playing for another club, reports talkSPORT.
The Portuguese coach knows the 40-year-old defender well from his time in charge at the San Siro, winning a domestic and European treble when working together in 2010.
After Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge in the summer, the pair were linked with a reunion in west London, after reports emerged that Chelsea had made a bid for the veteran.
However, the Blues boss was quick to rubbish suggestions that he made an enquiry, intimating that he fully expects Zanetti to retire at Inter - the club he has represented since 1995.
"There was no offer for Zanetti," Mourinho told Sky Italia. "It is impossible to see [him] with another team that is not Inter."
The Chelsea boss was speaking to media after Wednesday night's 1-1 Champions League last-16 first leg draw with Galatasaray in Turkey, where he came up against a number of his former stars, including Wesley Sneijder - who he also had at Inter - and Blues legend Didier Drogba.
