If Manchester United fans thought that their season couldn't get worse following their 2-0 defeat to Greek champions Olympiakos on Tuesday night, they thought wrong.
Season ticket holders received an email from the Manchester United ticket office yesterday declaring that payment had to be made for the return leg of the last-16 tie by 8pm that night. If they failed to make this payment, then their season ticket will be suspended for the Manchester City match on March 25.
The Champions League game is being played at Old Trafford on March 19, with the Premier League champions aiming to overturn a two goal deficit and improve on the lacklustre performance which saw them get one shot on target in the whole 90 minutes.
This will come as the ultimate blow to season ticket holders wanting to avenge their 4-1 defeat to their City rivals earlier on this season and reclaim bragging rights in Manchester. The Red Devils' fan base is already growing impatient with their team's results so far this season, so this move from the club is sure to infuriate fans even more.
Manager David Moyes is the bookmakers' favourite to be the next man to be sacked following a disastrous season by their standards, according to oddschecker.
Moyes took over from the now club ambassador Sir Alex Ferguson at the start of the season, who enjoyed a trophy-laden 26 years at the club.
The Manchester outfit have seemingly failed to defend their Premier League crown after falling 15 points behind leaders Chelsea, and may also not qualify for the Champions League next season after finding themselves 11 points behind 4th placed Liverpool, who occupy the last Champions League qualification spot.
They are also out of both domestic cup competitions, losing to Sunderland in the Capital One Cup semi-final on penalties, and to Swansea 2-1 in the third round of the FA Cup, both at Old Trafford.
The apparent email reads:
"Dear 'season ticket holder,'
The deadline to buy your seat for Olympiacos FC is Wednesday 26th February 2014 at 8pm. Please note that not buying this ticket will result in your Season Ticket being suspended for the Manchester City game.
We look forward to hearing from you shortly."
Would this persuade you to buy the ticket, or would you make a stand against this?
