Liverpool are believed to be targeting Cardiff centre-back Steven Caulker in an attempt to strengthen their leaky defence, according to the Metro.
Liverpool's fragility in defence has been criticised by many, including John Barnes, who feels their defensive record will prove a hindrance in their pursuit of the title.
Liverpool are the Premier League's highest scorers, but also have one of the shakiest defences, conceding a goal for every two they score.
Brendan Rodgers is interested in Caulker and sees the 22-year-old as a possible replacement for Daniel Agger. Caulker has recently been called up to the England squad, and is in contention to win his second cap against Denmark.
The former Tottenham player has been one of Cardiff's better performers this season, which hasn't proved to difficult considering the poor season the Welsh side are having.
Caulker commanded a record fee of £8.5 million last summer, and Cardiff will be looking for a stark increase on that if they are to let go of their captain.
However, should the Bluebird fail to stay in the Premier League, they may find it difficult to hold onto their prized asset.
However, whether Caulker good enough to replace Agger is questionable.
