Manchester City to rival United and Chelsea for William Carvalho

Manchester City have joined Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to sign Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho, according to A Bola.

The list of admirers for Carvalho grows by the day, with City just the latest to be linked with the talented Portugal international.

United and Chelsea have both been strongly linked with the 21-year-old midfielder - United have reportedly scouted him on 13 occasions already this season.

Spanish news site Cadena Ser reported yesterday that Atletico Madrid investors had left a transfer "wish-list" at a Madrid restaurant after holding a meeting there, and the list included Carvalho as one of the targets.

And City are the latest club mentioned as a suitor for the £37m-rated Carvalho. He made his debut for the Portugal national team last year, and is currently enjoying a breakout season with Sporting.

He has only made 19 league appearances in his Sporting career to date, but is already being talked about as a Champions League-calibre central midfielder.

United have obvious concerns in the middle of the pitch, and David Moyes is set to receive a sizeable transfer budget to strengthen the squad in the summer.

Chelsea dipped into the Portuguese market in January to take Nemanja Matic from Benfica in a deal worth around £20m, so their interest in Carvalho may have cooled.
